Dear Lincoln Families,

Welcome to the 2015-2016 Academic Year at Lincoln International Academy. We are very proud of the growth and accomplishments of the school during these 24 years and specially the success of our students in recent years.  The school opened its doors in 1991, and the first High School graduation took place in 1994. Up to now, 750 students have graduated from the school and have continued their higher education in prestigious colleges around the world; many of them have come back to Nicaragua and currently have their children at LIA.

Last year, was a great year for the school in many areas.

  • College acceptance: 93 colleges accepted our students including most of the Ivy League universities.

  • SAT and ACT scores: Highest overall average and top individual scores in the history of the school.

  • New overall AP score record with 87% of our students passing AP tests, above all the schools in Nicaragua and way above the global average.

  • Service Learning; new record of 11,864 hours of community service.

  • And many more accomplishments in all other areas of the school.

As part of LIA´s strategic planning process guided by the vision and mission of the school, some of the new improvements for this 2015-2016 academic year are:

  • Air Conditioning Project for the entire school:   The Board of Directors decided to speed up the plan that was expected to be completed in four years.  This year, in its second year of implementation, AC units were installed in all the classrooms.

  • More Digital Books for students:  All our digital experience and infrastructure allows learning to continue even in cases out of our control, where school is cancelled.  It is necessary that students get all the tools to succeed in the future and technology integration is an integral part of this effort.  We will continue to LIA´s BYOD program, encouraging all students to bring their computers or tablets to be able to access all the digital media available for them at the school.

  • Internet bandwidth increased: From last year to this one, the internet capability of the school has been expanded to double its size.  Now the school has 80 MB clear channel.

  • MAP administration: MAP tests (NWEA´s Measures of Academic Progress) were administered last year for the first time to early elementary students.  Now students from 1st to 10th grade take the MAP test three times a year (fall, winter and spring).   This year we also receive data from Tri-Association, where we can benchmark the school and align our goals of improvement with similar schools in the region.  MAP help us determine the areas of strengths and weaknesses that our students have and thus better assist faculty members in closing achievement gaps while providing students with the support to succeed in each area.

  • PlusPortals: In order to improve service and ease of access for parents, students and teachers, the school decided to change Edline for the new Rediker edition of PlusPortals.  Rediker Software's PlusPortals are a family of interactive web portals for parents, students and teachers. Seamlessly integrated with AdminPlus and the TeacherPlus Gradebook, PlusPortals enable school administrators and teachers to instantly share data and engage with parents and students in a secure environment.

  • Naviance (College Counselling College and Career Reediness Solution): Naviance started last year (September for 12th grade and January for 9-11).  This online platform helps high school students improve college and career planning.   If your son or daughter is in High School please make sure that they are taking full advantage of Naviance.

  • Second Step (K-8 Emotional Intelligence Program): Two years ago, the school and the LPA purchased one of the most prestigious programs on Emotional Intelligence.  This year, there are many changes in its implementation in Elementary and Middle School.  We hope that all parents participate alongside with their children as we teach them core social-emotional skills such as empathy, emotion management, problem solving, self-regulation, and executive functions.

All improvements that have taken place in current years and the ones outlined above, are a guarantee to our school community that LIA works relentlessly to provide the best educational experience to all the students, families and staff.  As the school continues to innovate and improve all aspects of the school systems, school personnel reflect upon the school mission and vision to make the following practices a priority:

  • Provide an integral education to all students based in the teachings of the Catholic faith.

  • Improve the quality of the teaching process focused on student learning.

  • Support the school´s vision and purpose through effective leadership.

  • Provide quality information to all stakeholders.

  • Enforce policies and practices that foster and sustain improvement.

  • Use resources and support systems to sustain LIA´s goals for student learning.

On behalf of all at LIA, please accept our gratitude for your continued trust in Lincoln International Academy, and the lifelong value that a Catholic education provides.

May God bless you and your family!

Sincerely,

Adolfo J. Gonzalez
